Loch Lomond in the mist

Another morning shot to catch the remaining mist which was lingering on the east shore of Loch Lomond.  As you can see in the image below, the little clump of trees were shedding the last of their autumn colours and the mist surrounding them helped the trees really stand out in this minimulistic shot. The 25 second exposure I used also helped to smooth out any ripples and movement in the water, and just in time too, as the mist soon lifted revealing the landscape behind the trees which of course transformed the scene from this lovely, simple and uncluttered view into the complete opposite. Three other shots from the Loch Lomond mist morning shoot are also shown below as thumbnails.  If you would like to purchase any of these images as a high resolution and quality print or canvas, then please click on a image for available print options.

Oran Mor Twilight Print – Glasgow West End Wall Art by Grant Glendinning

Twilight at Òran Mór, Glasgow

An early start to the day rewarded me with this capture of the pre-dawn twilight glow washing over the Òran Mór arts and entertainment venue on Byres Road, Glasgow. I was lucky enough to frame this moment from Great Western Road, catching what appears to be a rare, empty street. In truth, the traffic was coming in waves, and I managed to time a 25-second long exposure perfectly, just before the next surge of cars rolled through.

Heavy rain through the night had left a generous puddle by the roadside, which I used to full effect by lowering my Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod for a reflective angle. A Hoya low-profile polarising filter on my Canon 17–40mm f/4.0 L lens helped draw out the detail and enhance the mirror-like reflection.

As a final touch, a delicate crescent Moon appeared just to the right of the Òran Mór building, a quiet bonus that added to the calm, layered beauty of the scene.

Amateur Photographer Magazine December 2013

I’m genuinely thrilled and still a little stunned to share that I’ve been published in Amateur Photographer magazine for the third time, in the 7th December 2013 issue of Amateur Photographer Magazine.

My images selected this time were Ayrshire flat calm, Loch Leven Sunset and Loch Lomond.  Each one holds a quiet memory, a sliver of light and atmosphere that I managed to catch just as it passed.

To top it off, I was awarded Editor’s Choice, which means I’ll also receive a 16×24 canvas print of my Ayrshire coast image. I can already picture it, something tangible to hang on the wall and remind me why I keep doing this.
